New technology leverages on social networking to connect buyers and sellers, giving highly discounted rates
In Summary:
As Kenya’s inflation edges up amid economic strain, a new platform "Nuvv" is redefining how consumers and businesses shop by introducing collaborative purchasing through group buys and split payments. The innovation leverages social networking to connect buyers and sellers, enabling users to form “Spaces” around shared interests; like electronics, food, or farming. They can buy in bulk at discounted rates or share costs for goods and services. The model, likened to digital “chamas,” not only promotes affordability but also strengthens connections between local consumers, MSMEs, and even the African diaspora, reshaping e-commerce through collective purchasing power.
While businesses and individual Kenyans continue to grapple with the tough economic environment, actual collaborations seems to be a leeway to steer through the hardship.
Through technological offerings, buyers in the country can now purchase commodities and services through collaboration at notably discounted prices, helping them save funds in a volatile economy.

This can be through group buys, almost similar to the traditional “chamas” where people contribute funds, purchase products then divide amongst themselves to reduce higher retail costs; and through split pay, through platforms such as Nuvv, An innovative shopping platform.
Kenya's inflation rose slightly to 4.6 per cent in September 2025, up from 4.5 per cent in August an increase that was driven by higher non-core inflation, primarily due to rising prices for vegetables, while core inflation decreased slightly.
For Group Buy, a user can meet like-minded buyers looking for the same products as them through Nuvv Spaces, where users can create Spaces based on their shopping interests such as electronics, food, farm inputs among others and whenever there is a deal, they can share the product within the Space and make the purchase together at a discount.

According to industry players, this technological move is timely in solving the issue of high cost of goods and services.
“This is all about giving users access to high-cost goods and services, whether through Nuvv Group Buy (for discounts), or Nuvv Split Pay (for cost-sharing).”
The Spaces are similar to Facebook and WhatsApp groups which serve the purpose of connecting buyers, including strangers, who are looking for the same products. For instance, farmers can form a "Farmers Space". MSMEs can form “MSME Space".
For large businesses, this means like-minded strangers -individual consumers and MSMEs in Africa can connect, buy products together in bulk abroad at discounted rates and have the products delivered to each individual buyer via Nuvv Spaces.
“Nuvv is also revolutionary in the sense that it allows Africans in Africa to connect with their counterparts in the diaspora and get support when it comes to acquiring goods and services.” Say Nuvv management
The same can be applied to businesses selling similar product in the sense that once they create a Nuvv Space, they can consolidate their effort to locate buyers and have products or services delivered to them a provision that reduces stiff competition.
On the other hand, Nuvv Split Pay allows users to split payments and share costs with friends, both locally and abroad which can be used for birthdays, baby showers, food purchases, weddings and charity causes among others.
A user simply loads their shopping cart with products, shares the link on social media, and from there, friends, family or even strangers can make contributions.
For instance, a needy student lacking school supplies can load their shopping cart with products, share on social media and other well-wishers can make contributions.
“The platform is making the market place more interactive, leveraging on social networking to connect buyers and sellers regardless of social and geographic differences.”
The product officially launches in Kenya tomorrow.
